The Triumph of Dedication
Our Barton Inclusive FC walking football team, after starting in September 2019, has emerged victorious by clinching their first-ever trophy where they claimed the Plate Final at the annual Alford Walking Football Tournament on Sunday 7th July 2024.
The Sweet Taste of Success
As the final whistle blew in BIFC’s 3-0 final victory over Alford, the elation on the faces of our players was palpable. Their hard work and perseverance had finally paid off, culminating in a well-deserved victory that will be cherished for years to come.
Captain Mark Bartup, who set up the team in September 2019 and has given 100’s of voluntary hours over the past four years, had this to say to his players on the day:
“Well what an amazing day for our club, Plate Final winners after last weeks great achievements too (where our team went undefeated at the Grimsby tournament).
We are all buzzing and so proud to bring the Plate Trophy back with us, what an incredible day and I must thank my team mates. You are all truly amazing people with great pride and passion wearing our Barton kits.
Special mentions today to Dunksy who came into the team late after a couple of withdrawals and also came off nights to play for us today and scored five goals and thoroughly deserved Player of the Day, voted by last weeks winner Jonathan.
Also to Mark Davis who was injured and took three of us from Goxhill in his van and stepped in as Manager today and did a marvellous job of picking the teams, sorting out the subs and great assistance from the side-lines gave us great confidence; well done fella so much appreciated.
We picked up two injuries too with Baz and Mark B however the team today was immense and I felt so inspired to be a part of our fantastic achievements today.
Long May it continue, one very happy team tonight get in what a team BIFC.”
Dunksy shared: “Brilliant day boys and well played everyone, feeling proud to be apart of it.”
Griff, who proudly awarded Dunksy Player of the Day shared his appreciation for Mark D, who stepped in to coach: “Thanks for organising us, great coaching tactics and always positive encouragement, brilliant.”
