A message from our Chairwoman, Sophie Bartup:
“My name is Sophie and I have the honour of being the Chairwoman of Barton Inclusive Football Club.
As we head into the summer, we have already celebrated the incredible achievements of seven of our teams.
On Friday 31st May, Lady Jo Newby hosted the BIFC – Hull Awards Evening, shining a light on our Vikings, Rovers, U16 Tigers and U12 Comets.
The following evening, Joanne Lambon (Club Treasurer), Lynn Green (Club Welfare Officer) and I hosted an Awards Evening for Athletic, Inter and Pumas.
We have our men’s walking football awards to look forward to at the end of June, followed by our women’s walking football and inclusive team.
Furthermore, we have an exciting morning of awards to look forward to for our Teeny Tots, Wildcats and Comets.
As we reflect on the past few months, it is truly remarkable to see how far we have come and the impact that this football club has had on so many people, most importantly, our players in both Barton-upon-Humber and Hull.
For many of us, football is more than just a game, it’s a way of life. It has the power to bring people together, break down barriers, and transform lives.
And that is exactly what we have witnessed within BIFC this season.
We have seen individuals face their fears, push past their limitations, and defy expectations. We have seen the joy on our players faces as they score a goal, make a tackle, or simply run up and down the football pitch. We have seen the laughter, the support, and the sense of belonging that our football club has provided for each and every one of our players, and their families.
This triumph is a reflection of the skill set, dedication and commitment of our inspirational coaches and volunteers, who show up week in, week out for our players at Baysgarth Leisure Centre, Baysgarth School and St Mary’s College.
They carry out their duties with kindness, empathy and compassion and they create an inclusive culture where our players are proud to wear the BIFC badge.
Most importantly, we have seen the impact that playing football has had on the daily lives of so many of our players. It has given us purpose, confidence, and a sense of achievement. It has shown us that no matter what challenges we may face, we have the strength and determination to overcome them.
To our players, from our two-year-old Teeny Tots, through our youth provision, adult inclusive football and right up to the players that represent our club who are in their 70th year, I want to say well done.
Each one of you has shown immense determination, skill, and heart throughout the season. The growth and progress we have seen in each of you is nothing short of inspiring. You have faced challenges head-on, pushed yourselves to new heights, and have truly embodied the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship, values we hold so dear at Barton Inclusive FC.
As we look ahead to the 2024/25 season, let us not forget the journey that has brought us here. Let us remember the wins, the losses, the lessons learned, and the bonds formed. Let us celebrate each other’s achievements and remind ourselves of the power of perseverance and dedication.
On behalf of our Club Committee, here’s to a season well played, to memories made, and to the bright future that lies ahead.
Cheers to us, cheers to our football club, and cheers to the beautiful game that brings us all together.
Congratulations to each and every one of you.
Thank you.
Sophie.”
