Match report by Mark Davis.
Sky Sports News: 7 average looking lads & a lady set off bound for Sincil Bank with one aim… get BIFC first points on the board.
Objective achieved.
Firstly, respect to Tony today in the sticks. More than kept us in all the matches, especially in the last game when we came under fire. Cracking shot stops using hands and feet really well.
A very strong outfield of players today with everyone going the extra mile.
1st Game
A tough, fast-paced game against Corinthians. A free kick to Corinthians coupled with quick movement from their player peeled off behind us to finish. Very harsh for the hard work, and 0-0 would have felt more deserved. We even blasted the post. Heads never dropped though because Corinthians knew they was in a game.
2nd Game
Up against Lincoln United, Chezerooney, Keiran & Dunksy all found the net. Chez with a well-taken cool finish, not panicking, and the smile said it all. Keiran, with a wand of a left foot, could have had more but found his aim early on very well. Dunksy put us ahead before I managed to zip the team bag up, so no idea how he scored it but twinkle toes Dunks set up Chez and killed them off with a second. Tony kept goal well with a clean sheet with solid support from the base of Ian & Steve B. Kept great shape for the majority of the game but made the right passing-to-feet choices quickly.
3rd Game
Current joint top of the league, Alford Town, came into this game after our silverware win at the Alford Tournament. BIFC knew no love would be lost. A very aggressive attacking side with a good No.10 attacker, but our own solid CB, Mr. Hiley, did his very best to make the game uncomfortable for him with huge success. That enabled our CDM Steve B to pick pockets and turn our defence into attack very rapidly.
After going 1-0 up from on-fire Keiran, Alford fought back strongly to go 2-1 up. But when their GK un-sportingly kicked the ball away, it lit BIFC’s fire. Davis & Dunksy set to run the Alford defence ragged with two fantastic finishes to punish Alford 3-2. Then, with ever-reliable Martin to organise us all, we maintained our lead by staying solid without the ball.
A very solid, confident show from the BIFC squad today with first points on the board.
POTM
Tough to call as front to back we were solid today, but my MOM has to go to Dunksy. Twinkle toes, set up goals, took goals very well, cut out passing lanes, relentless. Well done.
Thank you from BIFC
Huge thanks to the league organisers and all the volunteers who work so hard to make days like this possible, it’s greatly appreciated by all involved.
